Unusual Wedding Entertainment in the North West

Nobody wants a boring wedding.
Everybody wants something that will make it memorable and unique.
You can achieve this by choosing some unusual wedding entertainment.
Choosing unusual wedding entertainment is always a bit of a gamble…. because if it’s too off-the-wall then you run the risk of having a roomful of your nearest and dearest murmuring “what the hell were they thinking?!?!?!” under their breaths… but if you pull it off convincingly then you’ve got a sure-fire winner on your hands.

Is the risk worth it? If you pull it off, yeah.

So where do you start?

Singing Waiters
A popular option is a “Singing waiter”, where suddenly out of the blue one of the waiters starts singing while serving the guests. It definitely gets a few gasps, but it’s not the most original of all the unusual wedding entertainment options out there in the north west, as it’s been done quite a bit already.

Unusual First Wedding Dance and Dancing Down The Aisle
You could go down the route of doing a “non-traditional” first dance, or a dance down the aisle (see the videos below). Again, surprising for your guests, but does take a bit of planning, rehearsal and nerve on the day.

You’re better off getting a choreographer to help you with this, as it virtually guarantees you wont look like idiots flailing around having a fit – I recommend my wife, Melissa. Speed Caricaturists are quite a good idea for weddings – these talented sketchers do quick drawings of your guests and let them keep them as a memento of your big day.

Wedding meals can be boring. Fact. Magicians can break up the monotony with miracles performed under the noses of your guests. I cannot recommend good buddy Wayne Goodman highly enough. Our Wedding Nightmare(s) Part 3

So I raced to he hotel to find nothing wrong at all!
In reception they said there HAD been fire engines there earlier, because a guest had taken a shower with the bathroom door open, which had set off the fire alarms!

Now rewind five minutes… As I was racing round to the hotel I only had ONE thought in my mind; “WHY did I not get that wedding insurance?!?! ” if I have one tip when it comes to weddings, then that is to get the damned insurance!
I’m going to write a page about the benefits and link to it soon, but for now, just remember that when the shit hits the fan, the insurance covers it.

First wedding dance songs… Did you think that far ahead?

So sometimes there’s an incident that you can look back on and laugh about… But at the time want the earth to swallow you up… Well here’s a quick story to learn a big lesson from:

I was asked to sing at someone’s wedding (not first dance but this lesson applies to that too), singing as the bride walked down the aisle.
So they picked the song “lost” by Michael Buble. Since I do a Michael Buble tribute I was more than happy to sing it for them… but I wish I’d have thought to question whether they’d listened to the song properly.

Here’s he chorus: “you are not alone, I’m always here with you, and we’ll get lost together, etc.”
Great for weddings…
…but here’s the first line: “I can’t believe it’s over; I watched the while thing fall, and I never saw the writing that was on the wall… If I only knew, the days were slipping past, THAT THE GOOD THINGS NEVER LAST”
YES those are really the first few lines!!! Imagine me singing that just before the bride walks in, and the whole church full of people looking at me like I’m trying to sabotage the wedding…
The moral of the story? If you’re choosing a song for any part of your wedding, then take the time to sit and listen to the whole song and listen to the words!

Our Wedding Nightmare(s) part 2

Ok so get this- my sister comes along to the bridesmaids dress fitting (I had to go cos my missus-to-be couldn’t make it) and tells me the venue is on fire! Not only was the wedding breakfast and evening reception there, but the ceremony too, so needless to say I crapped myself!

The thing at he back of my mind? “why didn’t I get the wedding insurance sooner?”. Yep, that was one of the things I was supposed to sort but had kept putting off… And now I was about to pay dearly for that!

So I raced around to the venue to find…

So there was a bunch if things that went “wrong” at our wedding (read “wrong” as “not as we’d planned”), but the most important things are:
• we got married (that was the main objective)
• everybody had a good time (the secondary objective).

Isn’t that really what matters? Over the next few posts I’ll share all the things that went wrong, including what happened when my sister casually informed me that our venue was on fire…
